Job brief

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to provide sound technical leadership in all aspects of our business. You will communicate with team members, stakeholders and customers to ensure our company's technologies are used appropriately.

Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. We expect you to be well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business concepts.

Who are we looking for?

As our CTO, you will be working closely with the CEO. You will be responsible for developing the company’s strategy for using technological resources, ensuring technologies are used efficiently, profitably and securely as well as evaluating and implementing new systems and infrastructure.

You will be a hands-on Engineer ready to roll your sleeves up with deep experience working on a diverse set of full stack technologies including web, mobile, data and infrastructure development. Python will be your day-to-day with an in-depth knowledge of relational and non-relational databases. You can architect systems from the ground up and manage servers on AWS and leverage serverless functions and microservices.

You will also be adaptable and curious with an appetite for experimenting with new technologies and tools plus loves the challenge of resolving complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
  • Oversee all aspects of Engineering including technical strategy, technology blueprint, information security and best practices & technology stacks
  • Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Build robust information secutiy architecture as well as compliance, quality assurance and data protection processes
  • Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance
  • Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
  • Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors

Must have skills

  • Proven experience as a CTO or similar leadership role in a startup
  • Experience developing enterprise SaaS
  • Experience building machine learning applications and developing algorithms
  • Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy
  • Understanding of budgets and business planning
  • Ability to conduct technological analysis and research
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High degree of user empathy
  • Resourceful and problem-solving aptitude

Highly desirable skills

  • Experience in trade finance, banking or a Fintech startup
  • Experience working in a business serving an African country or countries

This is a unpaid position with equity offer and the possibility of becoming a Co-Founder for the right candidate starting on a part-time basis and will become a full-time salaried role after we receive pre-seed/seed funding.
